MILES ( Moopen Institute for Local Empowerment ) has been conceived by physician and philanthropist Padma Shri Dr Azad Moopen as a project to mould an active, determined and aware citizenry in his native village of Kalapakanchery in Kerala,India. Typical of an Indian village, Kalapakanchery is full of untapped human resources which would be ideal for a well-knit society and a mature commune. MILES aims at exploring and bringing the most out of these resources through various programmes and activities
PROJECTS & ACTIVITIES
Our Mission is to serve the people through empowering and sustain their resources to enhance opportunities for education, employment, income generation, health care and social well being.
MILES undertakes various programs to support the village students for intensive growth. We believe better education leads to better employment too.
Human resource is the most important asset of a community, and it is the backbone of all other resources. We develop the human resource of the village community through different activities.
The position and status of women indicate the condition of society. We educate and train them for better circumstances.
SMILE OF HOPE
MA Moopen School for Special Needs
Making the lives of children with special needs a regular one like every other child is our mission. And a single smile from them makes it all worth it.
Most of the Indian people live in villages, and the villages are the economic and cultural foundation of the country. Community development has been a movement all over the world. There are about six lakhs villages in India while the towns and cities do not go beyond 3000. So when planning about community development, we cannot evade the empowerment of rural communities. There is no doubt the improvement has been made in this respect in recent times, but it is not enough. Indian villages are in a developing stage as well as the country and these developmental activities need more professional touch with an empathetic attitude.
Kalpakanchery is a small village in Malappuram district of Kerala state. The economy of the village depends on agriculture and employees in gulf countries. The educational and employment status of the village is budding as a result of sincere efforts by many benevolent people. Social, educational and employment aspects of Kalpakanchery necessitate more professional initiatives as well as any other villages in the country.
Systematic support and guidance make a vital role in the social empowerment of a village community. MILES began as the flourish of a dream which serves the people of my native village. We have realized several programs and activities for mainstreaming the marginalized village dwellers. It strengthens the skills and abilities of youth as well as student commune. Women and elders are also the beneficiaries of our projects and programs. Our professionally designed projects and activities steer the people for a bright future, and it is a model for effective village adoption. These local empowerment activities shall not be constrained within the boundaries of Kalpakanchery village. We welcome all who aspire to implement such programs and activities in other villages. Let us join for buoyant future.
